Apple Offers Charger Buyback After Death

The death of a Chinese woman likely spurs Apple to give discounts on chargers. In June 2013, Ma Ailun, a 23-year-old Chinese flight attendant with China Southern Airlines, was electrocuted when she took a call on the charging I-phone. Apple investigated the claim and it was reported she was using a third-party charging device, not one manufactured by Apple.

In response, Apple has offered to buy back non-Apple manufactured chargers. Starting August 16, users can trade in their non-Apple charger for a real one for just $10. You are required to bring in one Apple device for each charger you are trading in so the serial number can be validated. For more about the recall, click here.
